My PhD research focused on fatty acid profiles in adipose and muscle tissue of the sexually dimorphic northern elephant seal. I investigated age group and sex differences across life history stages during on-land fasting periods. I further conducted translocation studies to investigate how the fatty acid profiles of juvenile elephant seals changed during swimming activity. I further conceptualised, acquired funding, and completed three separate research projects outside of my PhD work during my time at Baylor University. These project ranged in scope from accessing DXA scans as an age tool for stranded Northwest Pacific harbour porpoise to investigating cortisol response in feeding trials of captive harbour seals.
