Aaron M. Laxton, MSW, LCSW, is the Executive Director for the Assisted Recovery Centers of America. Previously he worked as a Community Behavioral Health Liaison contracted through the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Aaron has worked with crisis deescalating and training law enforcement on the sequential intercept model. Aaron is in the third-year of his Ph.D. at Saint Louis University where his research focuses on addiction research and harm reduction. Laxton is currently the lead evaluator on the MAT-PDOA project in Franklin County, Missouri (TI-21-006), a five-year project expanding access to treatment using telehealth and certified peer specialists. Aaron has worked with street outreach and unhoused populations for approximately twelve years. Before ARCA, Aaron worked as the Director of Street outreach at a program funded by the State Opioid Response 2018-2019. In 2020, after joining ARCA, Aaron implemented phase one of mobile outreach, which provided MAT to encampments throughout Saint Louis City. In 2021, Aaron again worked with leadership on phase 2 mobile outreach, which the Missouri Department of Mental Health-funded. That project resulted in forming a satellite clinic with a community partner in North St. Louis. Most recently, Aaron worked to create ARCA's first contingency management program, which is set to begin soon. Beyond direct practice, Aaron has been reviewing and writing federal discretionary grants since 2012. His experiences ranges from the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Aaron is also a person with lived experience with stimulant use disorder.

Community Scientific Sub-Committee MemberAids Clinical Trials Group Sep 2012 - Oct 2015The mission of the CSS is to provide meaningful and broad community input into the scientific efforts, operations, and activities of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group, uninhibited by any perceived conflict of interest. The CSS is a subcommittee of the Global Community Advisory Board (GCAB) and works for the community and with the ACTG. The CSS supports investigation into the pathogenesis and treatment of HIV. To this end, the CSS strives to ensure that the ACTG scientific priorities reflect the pressing needs of the entire spectrum of people with HIV/AIDS, and to protect the interests of research subjects in ACTG studies. The CSS seeks to represent the interests of the diverse communities impacted by the HIV epidemic into the clinical research mission of the central AIDS Clinical Trials Group. Specifically, the CSS advocates for as broad inclusion as possible into the full range of ACTG clinical trials and for innovative solutions to include traditionally under-represented populations in ACTG studies. The Community Scientific Subcommittee serves as active participants of the Executive Committee, Science Committees, and Resource Committees. As members of each protocol team, the Community Scientific Subcommittee members articulate community perspectives relevant to protocol design, development, and accrual and retention of participants. Members for the CSS are selected by the New Member Subcommittee based on the need of the CSS to retain a broad degree of experience (including living with HIV), various areas of expertise, and diversity including geographic, racial, gender, and ethnicity. The CSS strives to maintain a membership that can both effectively represent the interests of the larger HIV community and reflect the various communities impacted by this epidemic.
