I am an engineering project manager for the City of Mesa. When assigned a request from a client department from the City, I am responsible for the initial contact with the client department to the final adjusting change order. As part of this position I spend a significant time communicating and coordinating with various departments, consultants, and contractors on projects.As project manager:- I submit requests for proposals (RFP)- create estimated design schedules and total cost budgets- evaluate design proposals- write design cost analysis- review design submittals- create review schedules for our clients- approve invoices- review contractor guaranteed maximum prices (GMP)- write construction cost justifications- review construction submittals, daily reports, and testing results- approve construction invoices- write change orders- close out projectsI am also responsible for keeping my supervisor and management aware of any issues or problems that occur and assist in the resolution of any such circumstances. I assist local industries in being compliant with City, State, and Federal limits, standards, and codes. I am responsible to assist ten (10) permitted industries and various nonpermitted industries to stay compliant with applicable standards. I do this by issuing permits, reports, violation letters, and meeting with industries. I inspect and review new and existing industrial and commercial sites and plans to determine if they will fall under the City’s Pretreatment Program. I sample wastewater and analyze lab reports for compliance with ordinances and permitted limits. I conduct grease trap/interceptor inspections ( FOG ) and assist businesses with compliance to local ordinances. I conduct compliance sampling of industries and for the Aquifer Protection Permit ( APP ) permits. I attend Pre-Tech meetings and coordinate with Development Services to identify any new or improved sites which potentially could cause harm to our wastewater system. I am also assisting in testing and reviewing a new pretreatment software.

I was scheduled to work for a year but was hired fulltime after six months. I spent 3 months at the two of the City of Chandler's treatment facilities being trained in their operation. My training incorporated the tasks listed below:Brine Reduction Facility (OBRF) - they are a cold lime-softening plant with industrial reverse-osmosisWhile there I did lab testing (calcium hardness, total hardness, alkalinity, pH, conductivity, silica, and solids density), used SCADA software to modify dosing, basic operation and troubleshoot, probed and profiled ROs, replaced RO membranes, and preformed various cleaning and preventative maintenance.Airport Water Reclaimation Facility (AWRF) - wastewater treatmentWhile there I did lab testing (pH including calibrating the meter, turbidity, COD, nitrate, total nitrogen, TSS, VSS, ammonia, and free chlorine), used SCADA software to monitor plant operation, physically walked and inspected the facility, helped identify potential issues, submitted work orders, and preformed various cleaning and preventative maintenance.

I worked full-time with the City of Adelanto as the Assistant Civil Engineer, and assisted in the operation of multiple departments, including: engineering, water, wastewater, and streets departments, under the direction of the City's Engineer and Director of Public Works, Wilson So. I got significant exposure as the only full-time staff member in the Engineering & Public Works Department. I attended all planning, coordinating, and development meetings for new and existing developments, projects, and events. I was involved in the selection, implementation, and coordination of engineering and public works projects.I worked directly with the City Council and city staff (planning, building and safety, finance, city clerk, city manager, code enforcement, and streets departments), and government agencies (SANBAG, APUA, CalTrans, SCE), commercial and residential developers, and various contracted firms. I've spoken before the Planning Commission and City Council; and at Development Review meetings. I've also written reports for the City Council, and attended trade shows as a member of the Economic Development Committee.

I mainly designed and updated water and wastewater master plan systems, as well as wrote and updated master plan reports. I worked on assignments under the direction of my project manager, and assisted several different engineers on their assignments. The assignments included updating figures and documents, doing takeoffs, engineering calculations, cost estimates, and assembling reports.I used Microstation SE and v8, WaterCAD v7, Excel and Word for water and wastewater system design, figures, and reports. I used Microstation to reference files, create 2D figures, layer images, and import WaterCAD models. I created and edited figures for water, wastewater, and reclaimed water master plans – which included vicinity maps, as well as existing and buildout system figures. Using WaterCAD v7, I designed water systems from scratch, modeled existing systems, and edited previously designed systems. With Excel, I designed and updated wastewater systems. I wrote, updated, and formatted reports using Word.
