This is a non-profit foundation for the underprivileged in Nigeria and Baltimore area. I created a website with information on how to donate, who each member is, and our mission. Every second Sunday of the month, we spend about two hours buying and gathering items that provide food, Clothes, household items, school supplies, and monetary donations directed toward medical supplies. I remember one hot summer day in July of 2020, months after the start of the pandemic, running from store to store, gathering 100-pound bags of rice, wheat, and water. Drenched in sweat, we gathered and shipped all items. Nigeria used to be one of the richest countries in the world. But many factors, such as unemployment, corruption, income inequality, poor education, and a dreadful healthcare system, contributed to the plummet of the country. No system in the world can be changed overnight, but starting a change does more than help me sleep at night; it helps those survive through the night. This volunteer and medical mission is one of my most meaningful experiences because it was founded by my mother’s brother, whose death can be attributed to Nigeria’s poor infrastructure. After hearing the dreadful news, our family took it upon ourselves to ensure his vision of a better Nigeria lives on. My aunt called to let my family know the Cortisone-10 relieved the rashes of many kids in the village. She also said that the headaches of those in the infirmary subsided with our Tylenol. After receiving so much positive feedback, we decided to extend our helping hand to those here in Baltimore. On August 5th, my nonprofit will be launched here in Baltimore. As a director, I will showcase our mission and goals to the attendees by speaking at the launch event. My family and I are also planning a mission trip to Nigeria in December to visit family and connect with our field directors (those who live in the area and help daily).

UMBC awarded me funds to aid in any research project of my choice at my undergraduate university. Since things were still at the heart of the pandemic, I was required to conduct my Organic Chemistry research proposal online. The purpose was to propose a mechanism that makes Vinyl Boronate esters using a cheap, fast, selective, and, most importantly, environmentally friendly method. After referencing many scholarly journals, I found that this chemical reaction is useful in the synthesis of alkynes due to their overall stability, low toxicity, and effortless transformation into other functional groups. My “ah ha” moment came when comparing this functional group to those of boronate eye drops.I also worked on synthesizing and analyzing proteins. I had to Identify if the Short Open Reading Frame “rbsB_rbsK_0” is translated into a small protein.
