After retiring, I had the opportunity to spend more time focused on family and children. My wife was in a medical residency program and after its completion she reentered the work force. The time demands of her education and training and a hospital medical director job and having young children in our home made having a traditional full time career minded employment unpractical. In this time, I worked for my self. Full time dad can be a busy job, but I also stayed engaged and aside form Rasing kids and sports I remodeled three homes. This work sabbatical of sorts afforded the freedom to be a parent first and make big renovations and improvements to an income property and to our residences. I am grateful for the time I had with my kids, but once my youngest was ready to start preschool I was ready to get back to work.

Interprets federal and state laws, policies, directives, issuances, and manuals.b. Formulates mobilization plans and procedures, unit notification and implementation. Accountable for the development of detailed mobilization and deployment plans, instructions, and resourcing requirements for all missions.c. Conducts parallel planning with other Army units and headquarters. Oversees the planning, budget, management, and execution of the mobilization exercise program, Soldier readiness processing (SRP), and pre and post mobilization training schedules.d. Initiates, plans, coordinates, and facilitates Readiness Councils and Readiness Improvement Committees within the Joint Staff.e. Reviews and analyzes changing policies and regulations, interprets mobilization/deployment requirements of complex, multiple on-going world-wide contingencies, operations, and various mobilization station procedures. g. Plans, coordinates and carries out unit demobilization, reconstitution of units, individual Soldiers’ and equipment. h. Participates within the Organization Inspection Program (OIP) to identify indicators that have direct impact on the readiness of a unit and its ability to mobilize and deploy.

Camp Guernsey; the Wyoming Army National Guard’s "Premier Joint Training Site". At Camp Guernsey I had two Primary roles. First, I was an Operations Officer for Camp Guernsey. In this role I was specifically delegated Current Operations Officer (CUOPS), but frequently my counterpart position (Future OPS) was vacant, and I acted in both roles for 5 of 8 years and even acted as the DPTMS for a year. For CUOPS I managed short range operational events for the facility and transient units training, I was specifically responsible for the period of 120 days, to date of execution, identifying requirements resources and equipment and meeting suspense's of the organization and our customers. Secondly, I was the Range Control / Range Safety Officer for Camp Guernsey. In this role I was directly responsible for approximately 80,000 acres of training lands, all dedicated training Facilities, 30 active firing ranges and an active Artillery / Bombing Range. Range Officer duties focused on development, implementation and supervision of Department of Defense, Army and local range safety policies and programs. A key part of my positions was identifying future infrastructure requirements and I was directly responsible for the Range Complex Master Plan for the State of Wyoming. My positions requirements had significant input into the State and the Facility's long-term Master and Strategic plans where I was a board member, and secretary. Additionally, my department was responsible for the oversight management and reclamation of all training lands and firing ranges. Unlike many reclamation programs the terrain scape was the resource and it had to be rehabilitated and reset rapidly so it could be used year after year without the impacts of erosion or invasive plants. My Range Operations / Maintenace Sections, and Integrated Training Area Management team had one of the best programs in the entire US Army and won awards annually for their contributions and successes at Camp Guernsey.

As the Battalion Logistics Officer, I was responsible for the supply, transportation, logistics, maintenance and budget issues within a battalion.One of the most rewarding times in this position was the opportunity to plan and execute an annual training period where the Battalion moved tactically across 100s of miles across Wyoming over a three week period. I had estimate costs and then once budgeted resource, food water and fuel from Mutiple communities across the state for multiple locations, and supply military specific logistics, Ammunition and spare parts from higher Headquarters or depot stores.

The HHB provides command, control, administrative, and service support for organic and attached elements. It also procures, distributes, administers, and coordinates supply transactions for all classes of supply, and coordinates unit maintenance support not within the capabilities of the firing batteries. The HHB operates as a tactical and administrative headquarters. The headquarters element will be positioned for the most effective control of the battalion assets commensurate with the terrain, combat mission and responsiveness to the higher headquarters and supported units. The HHB is organic to the MLRS / HIMARS battalion and is organized and equipped to coordinate administrative, logistical, maintenance, and communications support for the battalion headquarters and 3 firing batteries. The HHB Commander also supports the Battalion staff and special staff. The HHB commander must ensure the command facilities have logistical support. He places his XO with the main CP to supervise support, security, and movement. The HHB commander coordinates with the field Forward Support Company Commander for supply trains to control and coordinate all battalion activities there. He uses land lines and messengers to control all elements in the field trains and communicates with the combat trains using the administrative/logistics net (FM). These actions help free the battalion XO to perform as the second in charge. During operations other than sustained ground combat operations, the HHB commander is typically a second command commander and is available for other tactical missions as ordered by the battalion commander/S3. He can coordinate and control the defense, reconnaissance/counter reconnaissance effort, combat patrols, or any other task designated by the battalion commander.

These criteria are based primarily on the anticipated level of threat and the terrain available in accordance with the factors of mission, enemy, terrain and weather, troops, time available, and civil considerations and the unit's tactical standing operating procedures.Responsible for planning and executing individual training of the Soldiers and collective training of the battery towards full mission readiness in support of the battalion combat missions.Is also responsible for sustaining mission readiness materials and equipment Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a National Guard Armory. Enforces the highest standards in Soldier appearance, morale, discipline and safety.
