I lead the Chemistry and Life Sciences Team of RAPHAEL BELLUM PLLC. I am also a co-owner/manager of the firm. I procure and enforce intellectual property rights for clients ranging from large multinational companies to universities and start-ups. While focusing in the pharmaceutical and chemical arts, I have worked with clients in many other areas as well. I have over 25 years of patent law experience, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, counseling U.S. and foreign clients in worldwide patent portfolio and prosecution strategies, reissue and reexamination proceedings, due diligence investigations, and preparing patentability, validity, and infringement opinions. I have particular expertise in the areas of pharmaceuticals, modified-release formulations, small molecules and their solid-state forms, including polymorphs, co-crystals, and amorphous particles, resin technologies, medical diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, cosmetics, and food products.I have also served on litigation teams for numerous Hatch‑Waxman and other patent litigations involving Abbreviated New Drug Applications, including paroxetine HCl (Paxil®), gemcitabine HCl (Gemzar®), and carbidopa/levodopa/entacapone (Stalevo®), and patent litigations involving etanercept (Enbrel®), the TRUEtrack® blood glucose meter, and metathesis catalysts (Grubbs Second Generation Catalyst). I have extensive experience in all aspects of pre-trial, trial, and post-trial proceedings.Prior to founding RAPHAEL BELLUM PLLC, I worked for twelve years at J.A. Lindeman & Co. PLLC, the predecessor to our firm. Before J.A. Lindeman & Co., I practiced for ten years with the law firm of Finnegan LLP in Washington, DC. I focused a significant portion of my practice on patent preparation and prosecution, and opinion drafting, particularly in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic fields.
