    Scanning Tunneling Microscopist
Newark High School Oct 1996 - May 1997
Rather than pulling back academically in High School, I independently developed novel and inexpensive ways to enable Scanning Tunneling Microscopy. The equipment was received as a grant from DuPont under the guidance from William Sokol. I studied highly oriented pyrolitic graphite and discovered atomic dimensions and geometry different than anticipated. Using computer simulation, I discovered that not all atoms are visible, but rather electron clouds are visible and tunneling occurs between layers of graphite. I ended the study by presenting results to donors at DuPont and this led to an internship at the University of Delaware before university.
