As a sworn Police Officer, areas were patrolled to deter and prevent crime. Property checks were conducted along with response to various calls for service. Responded to various incidents including criminal activity, alarm calls at the airport, and various commercial establishments. Incident Based Reports were completed providing detailed narratives and other supporting documentation which were submitted to supervision for further review. Virginia Uniform Summonses were issued for criminal and traffic related offenses. Investigated various crimes and arrested offenders who were brought before the magistrate for a probable cause hearing. Experience was gained in working cases regarding misdemeanor and felony offenses. Conducted searches of persons, vehicles, and various property for contraband. Executed appropriate paperwork to include warrants, capiases, uniform summonses, search warrants, etc. Provided testimony to General District and Circuit Courts as well as Grand Juries. Provided information to Commonwealth Attorney’s Office through Motion of Discovery and through other formal correspondence. Packaged evidence for submission to Virginia Department of Forensic Science. Assisted citizens with certain mental health related issues and received instruction relating to Crisis Intervention Team Training. Worked traffic related crashes . Assisted in VIP/Dignitary visits including Presidential details. Received training and frequently employed body camera usage and provided appropriate video classification. In 2018, received designated appointment as a General and Firearms Instructor per agency request.

Responsibilities of jail operations include maintaining control and custody of inmates throughout the facility. Ensured safety, security, and compliance by efficient searches for contraband and issued institutional charges as necessary. Conducted facility security inspections, monitored cameras, and operated automated control panels. Responded to incidents and emergencies throughout the facility and prepared reports for documentation and further review. Worked with computerized jail management system for processing new committals, maintaining/updating inmate information, verifying court dates, bond information, medical information, classification, etc. Processed new committals to include fingerprinting through Virginia State Police Live Scan, capturing mugshots, and inventorying/inspecting prisoner’s personal items. Frequently conducted Inmate workforce supervision to ensure assigned jobs were completed off-site efficiently, in time, and without incident. Assistance is provided to both staff and visitors including various security roles and providing first response emergency care as necessary. Employee screening was conducted through badge identification and personnel belongings checks. Inventory logs were maintained documenting various events including deliveries, staff/visitor rosters, and museum property. Traffic control was implemented through direction, and parcel/vehicle inspection to mitigate potential accidents or other hazardous occurrences.
