Responsibilities:• Advising and guiding the management and staff to ensure the company remains in compliance with its health, safety and environmental obligations and policies• Consult, co-operate, co-ordinate with other PCBU’s• Providing assistance with company and client HSE initiatives• Championing the on-going hazard identification and risk management processes,• Implementing corrective actions to eliminate or minimise hazards• Writing, communicating and implementing Health Safety and Environment policies and procedures• Liaising with and inducting staff and subcontractors• Conducting investigations and providing comprehensive reporting• Championing initiatives for monitoring and advising our staff on health aspects• Supporting our people in the event of work injuries to ensure the best practice in care and rehabilitation.• Responsible for the oversight and coordination of all SMS related policies, procedures and activities, along with the monitoring/audit process• Assist with identifying safety responsibilities and accountabilities• Develop, implement and deliver the safety plan in a manner which engages, gains buy in and provides for a good depth of understanding at all levels• Maintain audit standards• Provide for solid communication and promotion of safety critical information• Build robust relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external• Ensure appropriate training is provided• Manage a highly effective local Health and Safety team and coach for success• Support the Senior Leadership team in their commitment to Health and Safety

To lead, maintain and enhance the Safety and Employee Wellbeing initiatives of Fulton Hogan’s 750+ Christchurch employees and integrate these into organisational practices. A key business imperative is to grow, sustain and promote occupational health, safety and wellbeing for employees and the Company. This includes the financial and entitlement risk assumed by the Company on behalf of employees. To ensure that management systems, resources and practices are developed and remain effective in meeting Company performance, legislative and regulatory requirements within the growing CompanyTo promote the core Health and Safety Policy of the Company

As a Health and Safety Field officer I work as part of a team to develop structures and forums for effective engagement on Health and Safety involving employers, employees and Health Safety representatives within the construction sector as part of the Christchurch and Canterbury rebuild. The focus of my work as a Health and Safety Field officer is:1. Growing safety leadership (including worker leaders)2. Developing health and safety capability 3. Building health and safety knowledge 4. Supporting a robust health and safety systemThe Christchurch and Canterbury rebuild presents unique challenges and opportunities in respect to the management of health and safety and associated training for the construction sector. Over the next three to five years there will be a significant increase in the number and nature of health and safety hazards and worker exposure to those hazards. The Christchurch Rebuild Health and Safety Initiative is a collaborative project between the NZ Council of Trade Unions and BusinessNZ funded via the Employment Relations Education Contestable Fund for the purpose of the setting and prioritisation of Health & Safety training and related activities for the Christchurch Rebuild during this period. The NZ Council of Trade Unions and BusinessNZ have formed the Christchurch Rebuild Health and Safety Initiative steering group to oversee this project; organisations representing construction sector employers, unions, contractors, industry associations and training providers involved in the Christchurch Rebuild.
