During my 20yr career I was able to earn promotions that allowed me to work in all levels of the police department. I was made the Lieutenant in Charge while the city was looking for a new police chief. During this time I was in charge of the entire department, oversaw a multi million dollar budget, attended all city council, budget and staff meetings. As a Lieutenant I worked in the administrative and special projects positions. The administrative position I was responsible for the departments trying schedule, organizing the hiring of new employees, managed the admin Sgt.. and civilian staff and working hand in hand with the chief of police with anything they needed done. In the Special project’s position I managed all of the federal grants awarded to the department, in charge of the community police initiatives, and coordinated with county, state and federal agencies when implementing the Group Violence initiative.I was also held the potions of anti-crime and patrol sergeant. As the anti-crime sergeant I was in charge of a plain clothes unit and worked with them on the street on a daily basis. We did community policing and enforcement for the Group Violence Initiative. While I was a patrol sergeant I ran a patrol shift, scheduling and managed complex incidents as they unfolded. Mentored and new employees and developed them. Most of all it was important to develop a team that worked together while navigating many different personalities on the squad.While I was a detective I worked as a juvenile mad case detective. I investigated complex cases including homicides and made arrests and saw it through to convictions. As a patrol officer I was in routine uniformed patrol and the Amit-crime unit.While in the department I assisted in implementing the Youth Police Initiative (YPI) and the Group Violence Initiative with National Network for Safe Communities (John Jay College).
