- Trained under Dr. Michelle Janelsins and Dr. AnnaLynn Williams, Department of Surgery, Division of Supportive Care in Cancer- Project Title: Changes in S100 Calcium Binding Protein Beta (S100B) and Cognitive Function from Pre- to Post-Chemotherapy Among Women with Breast CancerPREP Goals: The University of Rochester Medical Center School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD) continually strives to diversify student and faculty populations and thus to increase the number of graduate students historically excluded and underrepresented in the biomedical and health sciences. The NIH-funded Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) is designed to encourage students from historically excluded and underrepresented groups who hold a recent baccalaureate degree in the biomedically-relevant sciences, to pursue a research doctorate, and to prepare these trainees for careers as outstanding research scientists and leaders in the biomedical community.

- Worked as a Research Assistant in the Cancer Control & Psychoneuroimmunology Lab under Dr. Michelle Janelsins and Dr. Annalynn Williams. - Investigated the role that inflammatory and neurotoxic biomarkers may have on cancer-related cognitive impairments for a national cohort of breast cancer and Hodgkin's lymphoma patients throughout their chemotherapy treatment in a longitudinal study. - Enrolled in graduate level courses at URMSD related to my field of interest.

Research Focus (1): Lifespan categorical decision-making with masking• Modified stimulus of cartoon animal vectors for sea and land animal bins for task development• Participated in piloting of study, • Trained to conduct standardized cognitive and intelligence quotient assessment for various age groupsResearch Focus (2): Binocular rivalry under naturalistic conditions• A virtual reality (VR) experiment testing what about the natural world causes low-to-no binocular rivalry incidence• Environment participants are subject to is a 3D hallway with the intention of simulating different depths: where one eye views an occlude (near object) and the other eye sees the occluded object• Three depth conditions were tested: (1) Near + Near, (2) Far + Far, and (3) Near + Far for both Motion and Static stimuli to see if the effect generalizes.• Main responsibilities included piloting experiment as a subject, subject recruitment, and data acquisition of subject task performance, duration, and efficiencyResearch Focus (3): ECG-based personalization engine for speed of processing cognitive training in older adults• In collaboration with Dr. Feng Vankee Lin of Stanford University, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences• Created auditory sound sweep stimulus of varying duration (ms) and frequency (Hz) for task/game development using Audacity • Programmed a script to create auditory mixed signals stimulus for word banks of direction, colors, and letters of the alphabet using the Google Text-to-Speech API in Python

- Responsible for maintaining the office, taking program registration, and performing office functions. - Served as one of the primary sources of information for walk-in and phone participants.- Assisted in accounting work for the department; sending financial spending reports to staff and faculty each month, purchasing lab equipment, and handling other expenses made on behalf of the department.- Organized and promoted department-wide events.

Research Focus: Prosodic prototype and adaptation in interpersonal communication• Identified general prosodic prototypes for individuals and prosodic prototypes specific to agreement/disagreement speech• Extracted, cleaned, and annotated transcripts of subject speech using Descript software• Analyzed within- and between-subject data analysis using Python to account for differences in pitch, speech rate, and articulation rate in various types of monologues

Selected to be a member of the senior giving campaign for the University of Rochester's Class of 2022. Volunteered at events and helped raise money for various clubs, departments, student organizations, and student aid funds.

Research Focus: Determining the presence and magnitude of foveal crowding in human foveal vision, replication study from Dr. Denis Pelli et al. of NYU (2016)• Supplemented data to support the evidence published by Pelli et al. (2016) of the visual crowding deficit, crowding, in foveal vision by means of the novel “Pelli” font• Illustrated, in psychometric sigmoid functions using MATLAB, an increase of threshold from uncrowded to crowded conditions across all subjects, indicating an observed significant effect of crowding in human foveal vision• Accounted for the limitation of spacing of flanker stimulus, as opposed to size of stimulus, on crowding in the fovea via linear regression model estimate of log-log slope for threshold spacing data• Responsible for subject recruitment, data acquisition of subject task performance, duration, and efficiency, and data processing in MATLAB

- Researched and developed public health campaign for ApiJect System’s Corps regarding injection safety with multi-dose vials and injection systems. -Relevant to the U.S. demographic with a focus on preparing for COVID-19 vaccination, using past epidemics that resulted from poor injection safety practices as a method of using history to guide actions for the future.ApiJect Systems America, Inc., is a public benefit corporation dedicated to making injectable medicines safe and available for everyone, using its Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) prefilled syringes and specialized Needle Hubs. Through its public-private partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Defense (DOD), its subsidiary RAPID USA, Inc. is building and will manage a high-speed, high-volume surge manufacturing capacity for drug filling, finishing and packaging in the United States to effectively respond to pandemics and bio-emergencies.
