About Aaron Bieber
There is virtually no problem in software or systems of people that I haven't solved. In my 20 years in start-ups and scale-ups, I've hand-coded entire web solutions, migrated high-throughput enterprise monitoring systems, built and supported development platforms for a team of 1,000 engineers, mediated tense interpersonal conflicts, pitched in at crunch time to launch new product lines, and built thriving team cultures.I'm a versatile, non-dogmatic generalist with production experience in PHP, Java, and Javascript, but I've also written ColdFusion, Perl, Go, C#, and Ruby (on Rails and off). Engineering LeadHubspot Jul 2018 - Oct 2019Cambridge, Massachusetts, UsLed a team of engineers working on integrations between HubSpot's application and third-party systems, including Slack, Zoom, Google services, GoToWebinar, Zapier, and more. I personally implemented the first iteration of a Zoom integration allowing HubSpot customers to schedule Zoom meetings directly from the CRM.Led a team of engineers in implementing a new, flexible, and scalable marketplace platform, initially used to surface integrations (or "apps") to connect HubSpot to other systems. The team built an entirely new submission system to collect app listing data from app authors, provide live feedback, and queue submissions to be reviewed by business development folks internally.I personally implemented a search and filter system for the marketplace utilizing HubSpot's mature Elasticsearch infrastructure, and oversaw the implementation of the customer-facing marketplace system, which was released publicly to much fanfare at HubSpot's annual growth conference, INBOUND, in 2019. -

Our group was responsible for source control, deployment, alerting, development and staging infrastructure, tooling, and language support for PHP, Python, .NET, and Java.The team implemented an entirely new software deployment system for Wayfair's PHP applications leveraging GitLab, Jenkins, and Slack to create an interactive group deployment process that dramatically reduced the uncertainty of deployment success and reduced deployment cycle times by 100%.Our Python group engaged with Wayfair product teams to improve Python fluency and effectiveness, which enabled both quicker iterations toward business solutions as well as higher quality end products. This team also owned and operated Python build and deployment infrastructure including Kubernetes-based orchestration and Jupyter Notebook clusters used for BI and ML exploration within the company.During my time in this group, we partnered with Sauce Labs to expand our Selenium hosted grid, implemented a tunnel to QA to allow browser-based testing of pre-production code, and built systems to surface test performance data more readily to end-users, allowing product teams to more fully own their code quality.

Oversaw this area's push into a "mobile-first" mindset, which involved efforts across design and engineering to accommodate small screens and mobile-friendly UX.Led an engineering team responsible for site-wide advertising content, rich media, and Wayfair's homepage experience. This team implemented entirely new streaming video capabilities, innovated homepage experiences on top of the Wayfair CMS, and pivoted the way remnant advertising was handled on-site. During this time, I promoted senior engineers into management roles and coached them to find success in leading others.Led an engineering team tasked with building a new and innovative wedding registry platform. Over several months, we built the team up from one engineer and one designer to three back-end, three front-end, and two native mobile app engineers, two PMs, and two designers, and released the wedding registry publicly in under one year.
