I was responsible in growing revenue for Jensen to over $2 million dollars in annual sales to Hardware Stores in Southeastern Alaska. The sales territory included stores from Metlakatla to Yakutat, with pretty much every city, town, or village in between. The "big" towns included Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau. I carried a Mac Powerbook Duo with me - first laptop carrying Salesman in the Hardware/Hardlines industry.I was a classic traveling salesman - on the road for 2-1/2 weeks - five to six times a year. In several towns I stayed with my clients, that was part of the job.Jensen was acquired in 2015 but continues to serve the Hardlines Industry.

My territory included stores from Metlakatla (south of Ketchikan) north to Whitehorse, in the Yukon Territories. During the course of my time at Morse Hardware Company I grew my territory over 20% in top-line sales, without eroding margin in a mature industry. I was an old school traveling salesman - with a 40lb catalog I carried from town to town. A typical trip was over two weeks on the road - but I met wonderful people and learned to work hard for my clients - something I carry with me today.

What a pivot! Moved from relatively inactive college student to an almost exclusively physical job for my first full time job after college. Pulled orders of steel using overhead cranes and by hand. Morse Steel stocked lengths of steel and rebar from 20' to 60' as well as plate stock. Drove large forklifts as well as moved Semi's with 40' trailers in and out of the warehouse for loading and unloading purposes.I was there during a massive expansion of the warehouse (from 20,000 square feet to 52,000 square feet) and led the installation and configuration of the first semi-automated rebar bender for up to #10 rebar. (that rebar bender with "my" binder was in daily use from 1990 until it was upgraded/replaced over a decade later)In this job I learned the difference between what I thought was working hard, and what real hard work was. I learned from my co-workers that Blue Collar work has dignity and meaning.
