In this expanded executive role, responsible for the medical center and healthcare district’s strategy, strategic initiatives, partnerships and affiliations, business development, leadership training, marketing, internal and external branding, communications, government affairs, community engagement, employee engagement, and patient transportation.

In this role, responsibilities included executive leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for Tri-City Medical Center's marketing (digital/print/television advertising | internal and external branding), communications (internal and external communications | media relations), government affairs (local, state, and federal health policy | legislative relations), community engagement activities (community partnerships | sponsorships | events), and patient transportation.

In conjunction with various faculty at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at UC San Diego, teach courses and lead initiatives that provide doctor of pharmacy students with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective advocates for legislative change at the local, state and federal level.

As an instructor in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) deliver lectures to lifelong learning students regarding WWII history/intergenerational education (The Amazing Life of W.H. Mensching: A True Story from the Greatest Generation) and the creation of an effective senior advocacy organization (Tragedy Creates an Army).

Instructor for HCA610, US Health Policy, in the Masters of Healthcare Administration and Masters of Public Health programs.

Primary focus was to enhance Health & Human Services programs throughout the 3rd District and the County of San Diego through innovative and effective policy and program development. Major job responsibilities included the analysis of local, state and federal health policy and the impacts of said policy on the delivery of health services throughout the county; advising of the Supervisor and Health & Human Services Department personnel on health matters with political overtones; development of programs to expedite the delivery of cost effective, evidence-based health care to county citizens; provide guidance for Supervisor on community relations, media, and policy decisions related to a host of issues; liaison with healthcare agency and company leaders to forge public/private partnerships and encourage collaborative efforts; manage and supervise the legislative intern training program.

Provided management and coordination for programs within the Strategic Services Department (Business Development, Marketing and Public Affairs (media and government relations)) for a large California hospital district with a 397-bed general acute care medical center and annual revenues in excess of $300 million.

Served as the 38th Senatorial District’s public policy/community relations specialist for matters related to healthcare (delivery systems and public health), public safety (police, fire, and emergency medical services) and education (public and private, K-12 and higher education). Legislative intern from October 2001-August 2003.

Legislative intern for the office of Senator Bill Morrow. Provided case work, policy research, event planning, and office support for the Carlsbad District office. Supervisory role for the intern/volunteer program including recruitment, training, and retention.

Trained and supervised the training of over two-dozen EMTs and paramedics in pre-hospital emergency patient care, response techniques, and ambulance operations. Lead and supervised the eight-member Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.), a specially trained squad that provided Critical Incident Stress Debriefing to Police, Fire, and EMS personnel throughout San Diego County.
