Civil Engineering Project Manager - Drinking Water
CurrentGenerally, my responsibilities within the Drinking Water department have been to provide custom engineering solutions for our client’s broad range of water system design needs, such as procuring a new source (well), replacement of a water storage reservoir, replacement of water distribution system pipes, designing water treatment systems, preparing required system planning documents, etc. Our Drinking Water clients are often local Whidbey Island communities such as HOAs, but we work with many types of clients, including several local municipalities. Selected specific tasks are listed below:Design and prepare civil engineering plans for water systems and watermain infrastructure, such as groundwater source facilities, developer watermain extensions, new/replacement reservoirs, water quality treatment systems, and other water appurtenances.Evaluate each water system component (source, water rights, treatment, storage, distribution, etc) such as through a capacity analysis to identify current deficiencies and/or future limitations to water systems.Prepare technical documentation and reports such as project reports for DOH project approval, Preliminary Engineering Reports (PER)s for funding approval of water system improvements, and Source Approval report documents to seek DOH approval for a new groundwater source. Prepare long-term comprehensive planning documents such as Water System Plans (WSPs), detailing water system information, operation and maintenance considerations, and future projects as part of their capital improvement planning document. Assess the need for a water system or project to obtain permits or legal documents such as water rights, covenants, or franchise agreements.Ancillary tasks related to project success: helping water systems procure project funding, assisting projects through construction bidding, and providing construction administration.Curate/Manage department Knowledge Management resources.
