Result: I gained an insight into indigenous historical archaeology, furthered research principles and the application of scientific principles.• In 2004 I assisted in the excavation of a 19th century Chinese site at Port Albert, Victoria. This was a salvage excavation as over the years much of the material culture had been pillaged, damaging some of the in situ features. Result: the creation of a new wing in the local museum a deeper knowledge of Chinese historical archaeology and research procedures and positive communication strategies with media outlets.• After my degree I assisted on the salvage excavation of a 19th Century pub site, in South Morang. Result: This experience gave me insight into professional research strategies, communication with peers and employers.
