Hosted a national science podcast that explores new discoveries, everyday mysteries, and the science behind the headlines. Interviewed a diverse range of scientists, from physicists to doctors to neuroscientists, and wrote scripts under tight deadlines to translate complex scientific ideas for a national audience, ranging from elementary students to leading researchers. Edited scripts written by producers and reporters. Collaborated with team to craft the editorial direction of the show. Spearheaded special projects, ranging from organizing our first live shows to analyzing audience data. During my first year as a host, Short Wave moved from NPR’s 11th most popular podcast to its 8th, reaching a million weekly downloads and adding listeners while many NPR shows lost them.

Reported and produced video and radio stories about science, wildlife, the environment, and people who revel in the outdoors for OPB's flagship nature TV show. This meant field producing complex video shoots that involved exploring North Cascade glaciers with microbiologists, bushwhacking coastal old growth with ornithologists, snorkeling rugged California rivers with conservationists, and otherwise feeding the curiosity of OPB's audience. Radio stories were regularly picked up by national programs like "Here & Now" and top videos have won Emmy awards and reached nearly 1 million views.

Created, reported, produced, and hosted OPB's ten-part narrative podcast "Timber Wars," about how a conflict over old growth trees and the spotted owl in the 1990s transformed the Northwest and the very way we see—and fight over—forests and the natural world. The series has been downloaded more than a million time, been included in college curricula around the country, and won several national awards, including the National Headliner Award for Best Narrative Podcast and being the first audio work to win the MIT Knight Science Journalism Program's Victor K. McElheny Award.The MIT award judges "praised 'Timber Wars' for its rigorous reporting, artful storytelling, and deft handling of intricate science. 'It ticks all the boxes: superb craftsmanship and storytelling; delightful science that is explained without pedantry; and real impact,' said the jury. 'They really dug into the history and were able to connect it to the current day.' The podcast also resonated with policymakers. Oregon State Representative Dacia Grayber called it 'the best history and take on this I’ve ever heard.'”Developed a national promotional strategy that earned national media coverage and episode placement on leading podcasts, including "Throughline," "Reveal," "How to Save a Planet," Birdnote Presents "Grouse," and the "Outside" podcast.

As the sole producer, wore every hat to create a weekly, hour-long radio show about arts, culture, and creativity. Oversaw the editorial calendar, produced and edited the host’s features and interviews, booked and interviewed guests with a focus on DEI, reported features, wrote scripts and web stories, managed multiple projects under tight deadlines, directed live shows, managed social media and interns. During my tenure, the weekly audience grew from 20,000 to 90,000 listeners. Our audience were such big fans that the performances we covered often sold out shortly after our stories aired.

Planned and managed the editorial calendar for all arts coverage for an award-winning city magazine. Oversaw two associate editors and a stable of freelance writers—assigning, writing and editing everything from newsletters to long-form features to playful blurbs. During my tenure, Portland Monthly won the City and Regional Magazine Association's General Excellence Award.

Designed and pitched an hour-long show, “The New Normal,” and co-reported/produced its central 20-minute story about how a conservative town came to elect the country’s first transgender mayor. The story won the National Gay and Lesbian Journalism Association’s 2010 Excellence in Radio Award. Reported the opening story about how an avant garde musician came to love NYC in the “Cities” show and helped design the overall story structure of the hour episode. Reported a story about the Green River Killer exploring the question "what makes us do horrible things?" for the "Bad" episode.

Worked as a team of two to design a new hour-long radio show about arts, culture and life in Portland. Given full creative control to create and craft tone, structure and recurring segments. Pitched, reported and produced a number of stories in a range of styles (narrated, non-narrated, 2-way). Also work as a fill in evening host.

Reported and produced an eight-minute story about a Saturday night-in-the-life of a Penn State police officer for the “#1 Party School” show; pitched, produced, and/or edited seven stories; participated in regular editing and story meetings; assisted with research and reporting.

Directed national publicity campaigns and coordinated international record labels. Oversaw increase of album sales from 500,000 to over 1.4 million. Significantly updated web presence: oversaw website redesign, created a blog, social networking profiles and html email newsletters.
