My name is Aaron Gilbert-O’Neil. I am currently working towards my BA in Political Science at Sacramento State University in hopes of pursuing a career in public service. Growing up as an involved member of the Bay Area community, I continue to work towards making a difference in local politics as I pursue my degree in Sacramento. I am an impassioned, political activist with a track record of dedication to making good policy decisions, enthusiasm and persistence in outreach and advocacy, and a wide range of skills relevant to managing a political office.I am currently a legislative intern for California Assemblymember Evan Low. In his office I work on and staff critical legislation including bills relating to affordable housing, and a constitutional amendment that would enshrine marriage equality into California’s constitution. I have previously interned for Assemblymember Ken Cooley and Congressman Ami Bera. I worked as a campaign strategist for Duke Cooney, a candidate running for Board of County Supervisors in Sacramento County. I also have volunteered on many other local and state level campaigns in Sacramento. I am involved in college democrats on all levels of government, local, state, and national. I have authored crucial legislation for California College Democrats, allowing for our organization to create caucuses which illuminate a diverse set of cultural and identity based groups. I’ve also re-established the College Democrats of America’s Jewish Caucus and currently sit as the Chair.I have worked in a fast paced environment for over 3 years of my life. Working in the food industry has taught me how to work as a team with my coworkers and mediate complex situations with peers and even constituents. I have worked as a Head Coach for a youth soccer program, which has helped develop my leadership and communication skills over the years. While in this position, some of my tasks consisted of planning and scheduling events, communicating with parents and faculty, and bringing energy and a positive attitude to motivate young kids to play soccer. These fast paced jobs have taught me how to take initiative in the workplace and excel at communication in a team based environment.
