Aaron Fischman is an award-winning sports reporter and editor, who is awaiting the release of his first book, a sports biography, serving as a freelance editor for others' books and creating audio content for On the NBA Beat, an interview-centric basketball podcast he cofounded and continues to cohost. In 2014, for the second straight year, the Los Angeles Press Club honored him in the Best Online Sports Feature category. He was honored for a feature story on BMX racer Donny Robinson and his dire concussion dilemma. Aaron's master's degree in print and digital journalism from USC (May '13) provided a hands-on, multi-disciplinary education, allowing him to cover sports, city council meetings, business stories and the arts through various mediums (online, print, video, audio). While in school, Fischman served as a senior sports editor for Neon Tommy, Annenberg's digital news site, covering USC football and women's basketball and spearheading 2012 Summer Olympics coverage. Since grad school, Aaron has produced content for ESPN True Hoop's Cowbell Kingdom and Vantage Sports (basketball analytics) and edited three books. He's also covered the Los Angeles Sparks and written and edited features for ATLX, a now-defunct start-up sports and fitness site. He's served as a college sports producer for CBSi and has been published by Ozy and the LA Times. His journalism start came at UC Davis, where he appeared on KDVS 90.3 FM as a play-by-play and color commentator, as well as a talk show panelist and studio engineer. Aaron also cohosted the DSD Podcast, in which he interviewed more than 100 athletes and journalists.Ultimately, he aspires to write long-form stories. One of Aaron's favorite books, "Pacific Rims,” which chronicled the Philippines' love affair with basketball, made an early impression, not only capturing the game, but also many other complex societal issues such as cultural identity and poverty, among others. Similarly, Fischman hopes to write more sports books (beyond the one) that possess broader significance beyond merely the sport being chronicled.
