My academic and professional career is probably one of the statistical outliers. After my apprenticeship in operational maintenance, I completed the vocational baccalaureate in a full-time model, because I wanted to further my education to gather as much knowledge and experience as possible.Upon completing my vocational baccalaureate, I was still not entirely sure what I wanted to study. I knew I wanted to pursue higher education, but I couldn't decide on a specific program. The university programs I considered included Facility Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Technology, and Computer Science.To give myself more time to make a decision and to eliminate the internship requirement for many university programs, as well as to open the doors to studies in fields like Mathematics or Physics, I registered for the supplementary exams (Passerelle) to secure a bachelor's degree at a university or a university of applied sciences.During the Passerelle, I was able to fully indulge my fascination with mathematics. I greatly enjoyed explaining various mathematical concepts to my classmates, which forced me to develop a deeper understanding of the material.Ultimately, I decided to enroll in the bachelor's program in Computer Science at ETH Zurich, as I have always been fascinated by all kinds of computers and their potential. I wanted to acquire the knowledge of how to use computers effectively.I successfully completed my bachelor's degree at ETH and will next begin my master's in Computer Science.I have a great fascination for mathematics and technology. I see computer science primarily as a tool, from functional programming to machine learning and AI, that has applications everywhere.
