About Aaron J. Horowitz

As a child I was diagnosed with Human Growth Hormone Deficiency and self-administered daily injections. This experience shaped my perspective, and instilled in me a passion to improve pediatric care. I founded Empath Labs (formerly Sproutel) to improve the patient experience for children and change the the paradigm for pediatric care - empowering families and driving adherence to treatments - all through play!Empath Labs is a full-service adherence agency, with deep expertise in pediatrics. We pair novel technological solutions with strategic support to design and implement solutions that drive medication compliance and empower patients. Over the past decade we've reached more than 130k children around the world.Some things I'm especially proud of include:+ 2 TIME Best Invention of the Year awards+ 12 patents for our work in pediatrics + Meeting President Obama and programming our type 1 bear to wish him a happy birthday!

    With the support of DSIC I worked to bring an idea called Jerry the Bear to market. Jerry is an interactive teddy bear given to children diagnosed with diabetes.Jerry also has diabetes and it is a child’s responsibility to make sure Jerry is taken care of and stays healthy. Rather than reading about injections, glucose checks and calorie counting, children can learn about all of these things by practicing them in a risk free environment on Jerry. The ultimate goal of Jerry is to help children regain their confidence and independence at a younger age.
