I've been gifted with the opportunity to become part of the Interstellar Science Council for a new television series about "Blynk & Aazoo". Each episode begins with a kid scientist asking Blynk and Aazoo a "big picture" question, who then get help from both their computer M.A.V.I.S and the Interstellar Science Council members to explain the underlying concepts behind it. Blynk and Aazoo perform #STEM experiments before ending with a look at the current and future cutting edge research inspired by the same question as the kids. The show emphasizes inquiry-based learning and connects the wonder that children have about the world with the same wonder that will hopefully follow them as they grow older and become scientists themselves. The goal of the show is to promote the idea that science is collaborative and innovative, while also showcasing the diversity in science and providing viewers with the opportunity to see themselves as inquiry-based learners and thinkers.

This course, provided through the OntarioLearn portal, allows students from Colleges across Ontario to learn about AI in the context of science, society, and culture. I stopped facilitating when my son was born.

The Council of Canadian Academies performs scoping exercises to provide the Government of Canada, among others, evidenced based reports and advice to empower policy makers to make informed decisions. I started there as an intern in July, working on two reports:* Older Canadians on the Move * Competing in a Global Innovation Economy: The Current State of R&D in CanadaAlthough I performed some preliminary research on the first report, it was the latter that I was most heavily involved in. During my internship we were tasked with releasing a preliminary report to coincide with Canada's Fundamental Science Review, which involved updating previously published figures and data tables using the latest biblio-metric and techno-metric databases provided to the Council. Given my coding background, I was tasked with generating scripts that could reproduce the figures to Council publishing guidelines (figure dimensions, font size and weight) as well as many of the tables. After my internship was concluded at the end of 2016, I continued to act as a consultant on the final report, generating all but two of the figures for publication (in both Official Languages) and helping to check data tables and calculations.

A Host (aka the white labcoats) at the Ontario Science Centre is quite an interesting and fun experience. They take on numerous roles - teacher, communicator, entertainer, learner - while facilitating interactions between the visitor and the exhibits. My experience highlights the complex nature of a job with only a single word title. I was the primary author of a Science Spotlight on the Nobel Prize win of Dr. Arthur McDonald, collaborating with the graphic and exhibit design teams to communicate the solar neutrino flavour mixing to a general mixed audience (it involved a fun game of catch and a giant yoga ball). I was trained in the planetarium, giving astronomy tours to adults (on black holes and a place colder than space itself) as well as young children (zoom zoom zoom, we're going to the moon). Above all, I had fun - and I doubt there is a more enjoyable job on the planet.

I assist in the management of fifteen graduate and undergraduate Tutorial Assistants, and I also co-wrote the midterm and final exam for the class. I have instructed students in almost all of the introductory level physics courses offered at McMaster University. Each class teaches physics but with an emphasis to different scientific applications - engineering, physical sciences, and the applied life sciences. I also taught an upper level undergraduate physics course on the formation of structure in our universe - from planets and stars all the way up to the largest galaxy clusters.

Used sophisticated hydrodynamics software (written in C/C++) running on large supercomputer clusters to simulate the formation of galaxies. Performed data analysis and visualization of simulation outputs using my own code. Wrote three peer reviewed journal articles on my research results.

By studying best practices of other non-profit organizations, I helped redesign the governance structure of the association to ensure its continued success in the face of a high rate of executive turnover.
