Audience impact is at the heart of my work.I was lucky to spend my early career at the side of Michel Gondry, among cutting edge directors who taught me about creative and unexpected approaches to filmmaking. I had to learn the power and limits of the medium as well as how to think about film as a tool for bringing about audience response. Today, I bring those lessons to my work. Not to pursue innovation, but to reach for impact. The performer is almost always the medium by which the audience is changed. As a director, my background and training are focused in guiding live performance. In particular, I've emphasized bringing great texts to life with outstanding actors at all levels. I'm a fan of collaboration and how combining minds brings a result far greater than the sum of individual contributions. This is just as relevant in documentary work where the performer is not delivering lines but revealing the truths around them. It’s about human beings telling a story to other human beings.As a Public Speaking Consultant and Coach, I help big idea people achieve the results they seek from audiences. For me, it’s not about what you say; we have to focus on what the audience hears. I work with speakers to design great speeches and deliver them with clarity and authenticity. We invest ourselves in this so that the speech makes a difference. I wish I could say one size fits all, but the fact is every speaker is unique. We dig for the thing that makes each of us exceptional, and we endeavor to make that thing come alive for the crowd.Finally, I unabashedly love Shakespeare. I’m taken with the simple truth that 400 year-old texts still teach, challenge and inspire us. It’s the rare current event that doesn’t echo Shakespeare. The challenge of the language is, ironically, the very thing that allows us to experience those parallels. This is as fun to teach as it is to direct because I get to help unlock these treasures for both skeptics and enthusiasts of all ages.
