Throughout my career, I've embraced diverse opportunities to develop advanced statistical models aimed at unraveling the complex biological signals concealed within extensive genomics, clinical real-world evidence (RWE), and clinical trial operations datasets. My keen interest lies in scenarios where multiple datasets can be jointly modeled, leveraging information from one another to enhance inferences across the board. Such integrated models not only enhance the signal-to-noise ratio for statistical discovery or classification but often unveil significant relationships that remain imperceptible when datasets are analyzed in isolation. Executed meticulously, this approach leads to the formulation of causal, real-world hypotheses from large, intricate datasets.I firmly believe that the outcomes derived from such analyses should be actionable, not merely informative or intriguing. They should guide the formulation of the next experiment, inform decision-making processes, or influence strategic directions. I find immense satisfaction in the prospect of utilizing data-driven insights to prompt decisions that might not have been considered otherwise. My role involves applying the principles and methodologies of decision science to assist leaders in making informed decisions based on data, despite their inherent biases, which may often be undisclosed. To better serve these objectives, I remain abreast of recent advancements in statistics, computer science, genome biology, human disease, machine learning, and data science in general. I achieve this through active participation in conferences and national and international grant review services. Engaging in collaborative efforts and consulting roles, I provide team leadership and expertise essential for bridging conceptual gaps between biologists, data scientists, computer scientists, and executive decision-makers. Over the years, I have successfully led both large and small teams, within academia and industry, in the development of custom software tools for internal use and widely utilized external customer interfaces.Despite my continued career progression within the industry, I am committed to nurturing and mentoring the next generation of computational data scientists. I fulfill this commitment within the companies and teams I collaborate with, as well as through my involvement in the CSHL Computational Genomics course and various national and international invited talks.

Vp, Head Of Ai And MlSonata Therapeutics Mar 2023 - Feb 2024Reorganized and revamped the multifunctional data organization (data engineering, data insights, and advanced data modeling) to deliver on Sonata’s many and diverse platform biology and drug discovery program goals. Oversaw the refinement and deployment of an open-source deep learning method for oncology target profiling from human tumors, used for indication and biomarker selection in Sonata’s preclinical discovery programs. Championed and advised on the development and deployment of an LLM-based scientific Q&A chatbot, leveraging semantic literature search integrated with internal sources of text and in-house experimental platform data. -
Vp Computational Multiomic SciencesRoivant Sciences Sep 2021 - Dec 2022New York, New York, UsGrowing, mentoring, and leading a diverse multiomics team, working across multiple scientific domains, with agile insight delivery and product engineering mindset, at the intersection of discovery biology, chemoproteomics, target selection, and biomarker discovery. -
Head Of Computational SciencesValo Health Mar 2019 - Jun 2021Lexington, Ma, UsIn the first year of "Integral" (now out of stealth as Valo Health!), I've grown and fostered a team of 10+ outstanding data scientists, with diverse domain backgrounds in computational biology, computational chemistry, quantitative pharmacology, biostatistics, clinical informatics, and clinical epidemiology, to serve as the primary computational applications organization, responsible for delivering the value of our Opal platform to the preclinical and clinical drug discovery and development teams. Our group, in partnership with the platform development and infrastructure engineering teams, participate as peers in the concurrent development of novel algorithmic, statistical, and data pipelining methods, exploiting the latest ground-breaking methods in ML and AI, working in multi-functional matrixed teams across all business lines. -
Senior Director Data SciencesCovance Jun 2016 - Mar 2019Princeton, New Jersey, UsAs an integral member of Covance's Informatics leadership team, reporting to the Chief Data Officer, I lead a small group of data scientists responsible for the "skunkwork" development of innovative new methods to capitalize on years of clinical trial data to generate actionable insights, enable predictive business intelligence, and identify new ways to help our clinical research teams execute trials more efficiently (faster and! cheaper), while also achieving higher quality for our clients, using SOTA methods in NLP, dynamic time series analysis, and quantitative risk modeling. -
Lecturer And Course Instructor, Computational And Comparative GenomicsCold Spring Harbor Laboratory Nov 2010 - Dec 2017Cold Spring Harbor, New York, UsWith Drs. William Pearson, Lisa Stubbs, and James Taylor, I spend an intensive week every year delivering lectures and workshops on: review of current and historical DNA and RNA sequencing technologies; algorithms and tools for next-generation sequence analysis; variant inference and population genetics; whole genome and transcriptome assembly; differential RNA expression analysis; gene set and pathway inference; and bacterial and eukaryotic structural and functional genome annotation. I also help direct and mentor many of the student-led independent projects in these and other areas. Lecturer since 2010, Co-instructor since 2015. -
Senior Director Computational BiologyHemoshear Therapeutics May 2012 - Jun 2016As the founding leader of the Computational Biology group, we have developed and built a powerful suite of bioinformatic tools for genomic data processing and visualization that provide HemoShear and external partner scientists with strong data-driven decision making abilities, including the ability to interpret coherent biological themes of mechanisms derived from integrated transcriptional and metabolic measurements.
