About Aaron Matthes
With over eleven years of legal experience in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, I am a seasoned and versatile attorney who can handle a wide range of legal issues, from criminal prosecution and defense to labor and employment law. As the General Counsel for the 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, I lead a legal office responsible for advising senior military commanders, staff, and decision makers on matters such as adverse personnel actions, administrative investigations, regulatory compliance issues, ethics, and fiscal issues. I am passionate about serving the Army and its people, and I strive to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and excellence in my work. In addition to my current role, I recently completed an LL.M. program with a concentration in administrative law at The U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School, where I enhanced my knowledge and skills in fiscal law, labor and employment law, ethics, administrative investigations, and leadership. I also researched and drafted an article on conflicts of interest in the Army's Equal Employment Opportunity complaint processing procedures which will be published in the ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law in late 2023. I have a strong background in legal research, legal writing, and mediation, which I have applied in various positions within the JAG Corps, such as in-house counsel, associate general counsel, senior special victims' counsel, labor and employment attorney, defense counsel, and as a prosecutor. I have also represented and advocated for clients in various legal forums, such as courts-martial, administrative boards, and mediations with the EEOC.
Listed skills include Estate Planning, Administrative Law, Lexisnexis, Litigation, and 35 others.
