Successfully restructured a comprehensive special needs program to include social-recreational, resource & referral, and inclusion support for local families and the regional community.

Oversaw a variety of community programs, cultural events, and initiatives in multiple neighborhoods and facilities across the City; assigned as the City Liaison on homelessness in conjunction with the Orange County 10-year Plan to End Homelessness – conducted research on sheltering, multi-service resource centers, and best practices that were included in staff report to City Council; worked with our attorney and County of Orange on developing a multi-jurisdictional agreement that provided for “good neighbor” policy, security and operational plans, and physical improvements to a proposed year-round shelter; represented the city in public meetings and respond to public inquiry; Maintained a strategic approach to gang reduction through multiple community based partnerships, evidence-based programs, and community building initiatives; Successfully negotiated the relocation of a County of Orange funded Family Resource Center to Fullerton.

Directed by City Council to re-open a skate park facility that was previously closed in response to public safety concerns - Formed an Ad-Hoc Committee, researched best practices, and negotiated with users groups, public safety officials, and other City Departments, facilitated on-going community engagement, made recommendations to Parks & Recreation Commission and City Council for approvals, developed a sustainability plan through a public-private partnership; Successfully obtained consecutive Cal Grip gang prevention funding from the Board of State and Community Corrections to maintain evidence-based approach; Participated in the planning, project management, and coordination of the $2.4 million dollar Lemon Park capital improvement project (CIP); Assisted with planning, developing, and implementing an agency re-organization plan that included the elimination of 2 Divisions within the Department

Developed and implemented the Cal Grip gang prevention grant program with our Police Department and multiple community partners in response to increased gang activity, violence, and crime; Initiated new learning agreement with local University to implement an academic internship program that has grown from approximately 7000 hours to 35,000 hours of work provided annually, in a wide range of disciplines throughout my Division; Initiated a collaborative approach to sustain services, community events, and campaigns with various community-based organizations and partners; Developed operational and contractual expectations with the Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team as part of a partnership agreement to maintain recreational aquatics services for the community at the Janet Evans Swim Complex

Developed, implemented, and expanded the first 21st Century Community Learning Center & After School Education and Safety grants in partnership with the Fullerton School District and Placentia-Yorba Linda School District at 6 schools; Proposed, developed, and implemented first fee-based seasonal Day Camp that continues to be successful to date; Proposed, developed, and implemented first Teen Leadership program at 3 public junior high schools and 3 private schools
