Technical leadership, project management, and mechanical engineering for projects across a wide range of industries and clients.

Taught a product design & interdisciplinary innovation project course to graduate architecture students at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design (PennDesign). Built the curriculum from the ground up, leveraging LUMA Institute materials and a range of other sources. Our focus was on high-use, high-touch spaces (e.g. office work areas, kitchens, transportation), identifying pain points and then innovating within these spaces. Students leveraged user research, new technologies, materials, and design thinking tools to develop compelling solutions to the challenges faced by users in these spaces. Many insightful and fascinating projects were completed by these talented students. Final deliverables included renderings, physical models, posters, and presentations of their projects.

Development of innovative juvenile products. Responsibilities included project lead, lead mechanical engineer, electromechanical integration. Projects included rockaRoo, bounceRoo, High Chair, and Moxi powered stroller.

Project management. Project sub-team lead for the G1 SCBA Power Module. The Power Module is the main power source for the unit, and contains the primary PCBA. Peak performance is required even in the harshest fire service conditions. Critical feedback features were optimized including high performance piezos and high visibility LED indicators. Design of injection molded parts, electronics integration, machined parts, soft goods, sheet metal and wire formed parts.Other work:Fuzzy front end product innovation, market research, branding workshops & presentations, visual brand language development, industrial design leadership.

Provided engineering support for the nuclear power industry. Projects included finite element analysis of reactor vessel components and mechanical stress improvement evaluations of related nozzles. Worked as an on-site consultant and company representative at Westinghouse Electric Company. Mentored younger engineers and worked in multiple project teams. Created automated analysis routines for expediting evaluations. Qualified ANSYS seats for use by engineering department.

Consulted for a wide variety of companies on various design analysis and failure analysis projects. Performed design improvement of equipment such as next-generation aircraft carrier main condensers, mining earth removal buckets, and military-grade helicopter training blocks. Authored reports documenting engineering processes and results. Researched pressure vessel shock and co-authored paper for SAVIAC symposium.

Performed engineering analysis using various tools, including ANSYS finite element analysis software. Supported expert witness testimony for litigation.

Developed product concepts and prototypes for the Ford Escape in an interdisciplinary team. Final concept for a novel rear space management system went on to be patented: US 6,733,060

Researched methods of process refinement to reduce production costs. Constructed sophisticated Microsoft Access database for product specification retrieval. Presentation of internship accomplishments to management.
