This will help to facilitate future studies of molecular mechanisms of sex determination in acarine species as well as provide further insight into the evolution of sex determination pathways in arthropods. The ability to manipulate sex ratios and modes of reproduction in natural enemies, such as M. occidentalis, could be of benefit to biological control programs
