Aaron Ramey is the General Manager of WBND-TV (ABC-57), WCWW (The CW25), WMYS (My Michiana), in South Bend, Ind. Ramey was hired by Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting Company in 2010 to manage the build of the station’s first news operation, overseeing construction and engineering of new broadcast facilities as well as staffing for the news and production teams. He was promoted to the General Manager role in April, 2017.Ramey started his 20-year career in television news at Cox Broadcasting’s WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio, as a producer and was quickly promoted to Executive Producer. He advanced to WHIO’s sister station in Pittsburgh, WPXI-TV, as Executive Producer. Ramey was then promoted to Assistant News Director at Cox’s station in Orlando, WFTV-TV. In 2002, Ramey became News Director at WATE-TV in Knoxville, Tenn. In 2005, he was named Executive News Director at WHAS-TV in Louisville, Ky. At both stations under Ramey’s leadership increased ratings and viewer preference. As News Director at WOAI-TV in San Antonio, Ramey implemented a research-based advocacy journalism strategic plan improving viewer preference to the highest in station history. Ramey went on to work as a news consultant for Young Broadcasting to develop and implement a research based strategic plan for KLFY-TV (Lafayette, La.). His strong background in market research and strategies, product position and branding and strategic and tactical planning is what lead him to take on his biggest challenge to date – building a television station from the ground up! After just two years on the air, ABC 57 is leading the industry with the use of LiveU Broadband news gathering while also revamping the South Bend market through the community-based reporting by embedded multimedia journalists. This innovation under Ramey’s leadership earned the station two Emmys in 2012 from the Chicago Chapter NATAS.
