Provide clinical trial support in the hospital and/or clinic setting to ensure patients are offered appropriate clinical trials while following Good Clinical Practice standards. Screen patient records to identify potential trial candidates. Educate staff and patients about protocols, treatment, possible side effects, and complications. Assess and document the patient’s compliance and response to protocol treatment, as well as report serious adverse events as required by the sponsor. Review patient lab results, imaging, and ECGs prior to treatment to ensure patient safety and that protocol parameters are being followed. Serve as a conduit between physicians, allied health professionals, nursing staff and clinical trial patients regarding trial related questions, issues, scheduling, and drug dispensation.

Emergency Department - Triage, stabilize, and coordinate the delivery of care for incoming patients in collaboration with provider and ancillary staff. Collect specimens, complete head to toe assessment, and document all pertinent information regarding nursing care, medication administration, and observations. Complete nursing tasks such as intravenous catheter placement and phlebotomy, wound care, nasogastric tube placement, urinary catheter placement, and assist with provider led bedside procedures. Recognize, question, and report significant patient findings and/or inconsistencies in orders and treatment regimen. Recognize, prioritize and manage patient needs for up to five patients at a time.

Emergency Department - Delivered patient-family-centered care while utilizing evidence-based practice, safety initiatives, and cultural competence. Assessed and triaged patients, completed medical history and medication reconciliation, and initiated advanced nursing interventions during emergency situations. Received report from fire rescue, flight nurses, or previous shift nurse and used this information to prioritize care for up to four patients. Safely administered medications via various routes, maintained continuous infusions, and performed bedside procedures such as NG tube placement, foley catheter placement, and wound care. Communicated with providers for orders, order clarification, to report critical lab values, and to initiate immediate interventions. Delegated acceptable tasks to the emergency medical technicians to ensure timely and effective care.

Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit - Responsibilities include measuring and charting vital signs, feeding and bathing patients, performing venipuncture, removing foley and peripheral intravenous catheters, and assisting with ambulation and range of motion exercises for up to 12 patients. Monitor patients for changes in condition and report to assigned registered nurses. Assist in the administrative admission and discharge procedures, answering telephones and call lights, and complying with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Performed initial head-to-toe assessments, bedside glucose monitoring, connecting patients to bedside monitor, and maintained patient safety and privacy. Assisted with post-mortem care, tracheostomy care and suctioning, dressing changes, and peripheral intravenous catheter placement. During this time, I learned about safe medication administration, nursing assessment, the triage process in emergency medicine, and how to effectively communicate with providers, laboratory, and pharmacy.

Responsibilities included completing bank deposits, communicating and meeting with vendors, event planning and preparation, employee training, human resource duties, and inventory management. Provided logistical support as the owners' administrative assistant and scheduler, planning business and personal travel accommodations, represented the firm in conferences, and maintained licensing for their 3 businesses. Assisted with quarterly tax payments, paying utilities and invoices for the businesses, and ordering supplies.
