Kokeena makes custom doors and casework for IKEA cabinet systems. Using Kokeena doors on IKEA's modular cabinet system enables you to create the feel of a truly custom kitchen without spending an arm and a leg on fully custom cabinets.I started and launched Kokeena as a solo entrepreneur, developing manufacturing partnerships, sourcing design and photography as needed, writing all web site and marketing copy, building the website, and establishing trainable & repeatable business processes. In the early days, I personally handled all inbound sales opportunities and delivered all orders anywhere in Oregon and Washington. The company now serves all of the US and Canada, and and boasts a small team of customer project specialists. We've been mentioned in Dwell, House Beautiful, The New York Times, Architectural Digest, and more. After launching Kokeena I sold a majority of the company to another operator so that I could focus on other projects. I remain as a co-owner and advisor.
  • Self-Employed
    Sabbatical
    Self-Employed Sep 2024 - Oct 2024
When I joined in 2016, Eleven was just making the commitment to being a SaaS-only company and shedding the last of its non-software businesses. The early win of the Hilton contract allowed that strategy to be successful for many years. But, brand-level growth beyond Hilton remained largely elusive. There just wasn't enough value in what Eleven offered to get more brands onboard. All of that changed, however, when we reimagined the captive portal (part of the guest Wi-Fi onboarding journey) as the perfect touchpoint to drive loyalty program acquisition (to signup new loyalty members for the brand). Loyalty acquisition is a significantly more valuable offering to a hotel brand than "centralized Wi-Fi management" alone. Where implemented, Eleven's on-property loyalty acquisition Wi-Fi portal is the highest performing, most cost-effective channel for driving new member sign-ups for hospitality brand loyalty programs. As a result, the market is starting to "pull" Eleven. Sales are obvious, marketing is easier, and conversations with brands develop momentum quickly. This is a rare place for a company to get to. I didn't leave Eleven because I don't believe in the value Eleven offers. I believe Eleven is poised, now, for major growth with a great product, a solid value proposition, and strong evidence that we achieved product-market-fit. Having transformed Eleven's product team and product offerings, and having developed a future-looking product vision and strategy that builds on this new momentum, I'm leaving because my personal journey has been tugging me away for a while. I like to build things (teams, products, process, and sometimes companies), and, while Eleven has afforded me the opportunity to do many of those things over the years, the time has come for me to chart my own path again. I'm on sabbatical to start fresh. I have a road trip and some family visits planned and I'm moving kid 2 to college. When I return, I'll be heads down on the new thing.
