The Szostak lab is focussed on bridging the gap between chemistry and biology through the realization of an entirely synthetic cell capable of duplicating its own genetic material, metabolizing compounds found in its environment, and replicating itself in full. My work in this group was focused on the development of several catalytic RNA molecules to enable these processes. I also performed thermodynamic and computational studies of poorly understood nucleic acid interactions.
