Chief EngineerRicardo Jan 2011 - Jul 2016London, Gb(1) Chief Engineer for DoD R&D project responsible for identifying and ranking lightweight technologies (based on mass savings, cost, and technology readiness level) which could be used to reduce weight of combat vehicle. Developed custom processes and software tool which enables evaluating effects of all available technologies across multiple subsystems.(2) Principal Investigator for DARPA Adaptive Vehicle Make (AVM) Component Model Library. Led team of engineers and programmers to develop domain-specific component models which enable the design, verification, and fabrication of the chassis and survivability subsystems of the FANG Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) in AVM’s software tool. Component models consist of geometric, behavioral, structural and procurement information. Developed custom tools, processes and data architecture to support automation of model production. Responsible for all technical delivery and nearly $15M labor budget.(3) Principal Investigator for TARDEC simulation-based diagnostics and prognostics R&D program. Research into on-board vehicle system architecture for fault detection, function deterioration and service bay diagnostics based around forward-facing system models with a combination of embedded sensors and diagnostic test points. Led team which developed approaches to predict failures in powertrain cooling and suspension systems using simulation models. Development of on-board diagnostics and prognostic vehicle demonstrator. Collected test data to validate approach.(MISC) Supported various other programs / activities within company:- Developed requirements/specifications documentation for military vehicles and magnetically-levitated light rail vehicle- Performed benchmarking of vehicle and manufacturing processes to support cost modeling. - Acted as liaison to university solar car team which was sponsored by company. -
Senior EngineerRicardo Oct 2005 - Jan 2011London, Gb(1) Chief Program Engineer for ONR Marine Personnel Carrier (MPC) simulation-based requirements optimization. Led program to research and develop approaches and multi-attribute decision-making tools which were used to optimize vehicle requirements targets to ensure achievability. Led team consisting of subject matter experts from vehicle systems and simulation. Developed software tool which enabled real-time requirements trade-offs for tracked amphibious personnel vehicle.(2 & 3) Lead Body and Structures Engineer on two military technology demonstrator programs. Led team of engineers and designers on clean-sheet vehicle development programs to demonstrate new vehicle technologies. Responsible for all aspects of body and structures engineering, including cab-in-white, closures, exterior, interior, styling, human factors / ergonomics, frame and armor systems, covering design, build and test. Performed or oversaw finite element analysis of all custom vehicle components, including body, powertrain, driveline and chassis parts. Coordinated with suppliers to provide components and to integrate those components onto the vehicle. Developed technology selection software tool (for program 2), which integrated fuel economy and powertrain performance prediction analyses with architecture changes, in order to identify and optimize fuel efficient technologies to use in vehicle. -
