I've always enjoyed creating, whether it was Lego as a child or woodworking in high school. Early on in college I wanted to become a software developer when I realized that I had the tools at my fingertips to create a "Microsoft Word" level application! After graduation, I learned what it meant to be a consultant and the twists and turns of building software for a client. Having a clear understanding on both sides of the table was so critical!After the consulting firm, I started as a developer for a software company in 2009. The number of clients increased. Shared understanding not possible. I learned the value of an iterative release cycle and failing fast. The cost of legacy code and technical debt etched into my mind. Money spent on whiteboard markers and an extra conversation amongst team members to get that "better solution" were well worth it. One educational project was helping lead a team in a massive migration from SQL Server to Postgres. The value of good standards amongst a team shined bright.With my current position, started in 2016, I find myself in a successful company where software is not the bread and butter. My role here is to serve my coworkers. The table is small again. The clients are friends who I want to have a better day because of what our team built! I thrive on those moments where a day becomes easier with a simple page change or a new feature saves 15 minutes a day. I look forward to a triumphant coworker who uses software to break new ground in their world or draw conclusions not possible before.The joy of creating something is in it's ability to be used and enjoyed by another.I’m a full stack .NET Developer who prefers C#, MVC, JavaScript, CSS and Bootstrap.
