My seismological expertise include earthquake ground motion modelling, assessment of earthquake occurrence rates with correlation with geodetic data, earthquake hazard analysis, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA), empirical site response, and site characterization using shallow and deep shear-wave analysis techniques. My current research focus is the characterisation of near-surface materials using ambient noise for earthquake shaking assessment and engineering application, as well as the imaging of buried faults under urban areas and has contributed toward the reduction of earthquake losses in the high-risk urban areas. The implementation of my scientific results towards mitigating earthquakes effects on society has always motivated my research. A long standing desire has been to bring science on understanding natural hazards and the disasters they cause to the wider community, so that policy makers and the public can understand the implications of their decisions. I have the desire and the determination to initiate greater community conversation about disaster risk awareness and develop the strategies needed to greatly expand our resilience capacity. Resilience is a multi-faceted concept encompassing social/public safety, economic, and environmental and climate factors. Acknowledging this complexity, I am eager to devote my skill towards assisting our communities to reduce exposure and vulnerability to natural and man-made hazards and stresses, and to increase their preparedness for response and recovery.
