About Aashish Karna

As a child I loved taking apart toys and rebuilding them. As I pieced the toys back together I always wondered if I could do something different, which led me to my first LEGO kit. I let my creativity take over, making several models but with a personal modification or a touch up, and it was at that moment I knew I wanted to become an engineer. The passion of creating new technology or improving existing ones carried through my undergraduate years at the University of British Columbia. Along with the theoretical knowledge obtained in class, I was able to experience the ways of an engineer through my projects as well as my co-op semesters. Aside from the engineering knowledge, I also became an active and responsible team player, through participation on various teams, while also learning to be efficient independently. Having graduated, I still believe the learning never stops. There are many more problems needing to be solved and existing solutions needing improvement, which is what drives my passion for this field.During my undergraduate years I developed a keen interest in Motorsport, especially Formula 1, as they apply the same core principles of aerodynamics, but in a different way when compared to airplanes. This led me to dive deeper into the workings of Formula series cars and gain a better understanding of the engineering marvel they are.Away from engineering, I am also enthusiastic about sports, especially football (soccer). I am a regular goalkeeper, having played for multiple teams while at university. I also go on downhill ski trips regularly.
