Senior Advisor to Skyways, a company founded in 2017 based in Austin TX that is revolutionizing transportation through the development of novel unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Skyways UAV is pioneering technology that allows delivery of valuable cargo completely devoid of remote pilots or involvement of ground personnel. The UAV includes a hybrid power system capable of vertical take-off and landing and fixed-wing flight for long distance operations. Differentiated capabilities include industry-leading flight times and platform-embedded software enabling computer vision for autonomous obstacle / target identification and route navigation to safely meet mission requirements. Skyways initially developed its system for Defense applications and is starting to apply its technology to commercial market applications, including transportation logistics and onshore / offshore energy-sector surveys where UAV persistence and payload capacity are paramount.

The company offers a wide range of drone-based services, field services, and is a provider and developer of ESRI GIS mapping and spatial analytical software solutions.

Senior Consultant position at Balboa Geolocation, a NASA JPL spinoff company. This role includes product road mapping for current and future versions of the POINTER commercial system, as well as business and technical support for POINTER customers.

Membership on the Science & Technology Advisory Board for Balboa Geolocation, a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory spinoff company. Balboa Geolocation is an industrial technology company focused on global geolocation solutions for GPS-denied or degraded environments utilizing first-in-class Magnetic-Electric-Quasi-Static (M/EQS) technology known as POINTER.

Carbon Mapper uses advanced satellite and airborne remote sensing to detect and analyze methane and carbon dioxide emissions at a global scale. Carbon Mapper will provide a global open data portal offering rapid visualization and interpretation of these emissions data to educate and inform the public, key stakeholders, and decision makers.

SeekOps provides natural gas leak detection services, consulting, and sensor sales to meet demands from the energy and regulatory sectors. Using advanced miniature gas sensor technology, SeekOps provides an effective solution for natural gas leak detection services.

Position includes work in the National Space Technology Applications (NSTA) Program Office and the Earth Science Directorate (ESD) Program Office. NSTA role includes capture of new opportunities for applications of NASA data, science, and technologies to the civil and commercial sectors. ESD role as NASA Applied Sciences Discipline Program Manger (DPM) includes program development, strategy, and management of NASA Applied Sciences portfolio at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Focus includes expanding the impact of NASA airborne and satellite data products to civil and commercial end users.

Work with NASA corporate partner Chevron to match new technology solutions with challenges in Oil and Gas industry.

Research includes airborne science project management and execution, including instrument deployment on aircraft, both manned and unmanned. Specific projects include atmospheric characterization at high spatial resolution using imaging spectrometers. This work including field-scale surveys using advanced optical and thermal imaging systems for point source detection of fugitive gas emissions. He has led four multi-aircraft campaigns over the past three years (Rocky Mountain Oilfield Test Center, San Juan Basin, California Central Valley). Andrew's work in small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) includes custom sensor development, integration and test of in situ and remote sensing sensors using commercial platforms.

Postdoctoral research included In situ instrument development for landed planetary missions, specifically Mars. Investigations included subcritical water extraction of trace organics for utilization as a front-end processing technique of solid samples. Development of analytical strategies (separation & detection) include those separation and detection systems utilizing capillary electrophoresis (CE) and pressure driven flow techniques (LC, IC) for inorganic and organic compound detection. These strategies are advocated for future in situ planetary missions to Mars and Europa by current JPL investigators.

Thesis work involved the analysis of geological samples from extreme environments for amino acid distributions, comparison to their degradation products, and estimation of stability in various mineral matrices. Samples from the Atacama Desert, Antarctic Dry Valley, saline lakes of western Australia, Witwatersrand Basin and various other Mars geological analogs were analyzed during tenure as a graduate researcher. Primary analytical techniques included determination of trace quantities of primary amines via RP-HPLC with precolumn derivatization and fluorescent detection. Other focus areas included examination of abiotic amino acid synthesis yields at conditions simulating those characteristic of submarine hydrothermal systems (SHSs). Graduate studies also involved the analysis of a dozen extraterrestrial samples for amino acid compositions including Martian, CM2, and CM meteorites.

Modeling study on the effects of the release of the anti-fouling agent ethanolamine into estuarine environments on dissolved oxygen and overall water quality. Kinetics of ambient degradation modeled as a function of temperature and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and evaluated with respect to water quality on the Delaware River, New Jersey.

Laboratory assistant at the NOSAMS facility allowed for a thorough understanding of the CO2 graphitization extraction process and analytical methods for 14C analysis. Responsibilities included sample preparation and pressing of the prepared graphite into sample pellets along with instrument maintenance. Much of the work during this time was funded by the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE).

Laboratory extraction and preparatory chemist for the extraction of toxins from natural sediments, water, and soil samples. Extractions performed according to published EPA methodologies and included protocols for extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and organochlorine compounds among others. Analyses were conducted on these extracts primarily via Gas-Chromatography Mass-Spectrometry (GCMS) instrumentation.
