  • Envision Charlotte
    Executive Director
Envision Charlotte Jul 2013 - Present
    Charlotte, North Carolina, Us
Envision Charlotte is a unique public private plus collaboration that is leading projects for the City of Charlotte around sustainability and smart city. Envision Charlotte recently embarked on our most ambitious project to date to become the leading US City in the Circular Economy. As part of this initiative, we opened the Innovation Barn in 2021, a project with the City of Charlotte as the hub for our city’s transition to the Circular Economy. The goals of the project are to lead Charlotte to a zero waste city, a resilient and healthy city, an innovative city of the future and a city that has opportunities for all. The Innovation Barn currently has 8 partners on site both non-profit and for profit all working in areas that support the overall goals. In addition, the barn showcases several working closed loop systems and produces innovations around material use. As Executive Director I am responsible for all fundraising, partnership development and maintenance, oversight of all program development and design, and general operations of Innovation Barn and other programs. In 2015, Envision Charlotte partnered with the Obama Whitehouse on their Smart Cities Initiative to create and produce Envision America. This program brought 20 cities over 2 years to Charlotte to participate in a smart city bootcamp. My role in the project was to design the workshop, recruit all financial partners to fund the program, oversee the selection of the cities and manage the success of the event. Envision Charlotte started as a Clinton Global Commitment in 2011 to reduce energy use by 20% over 5 years in Charlotte’s urban core. Envision Charlotte worked with 61 of the 64 largest commercial buildings and saw a 19.2% reduction and $26 million is savings. I was hired in 2013 to lead this effort and design programs/partnerships to help achieve this success. In addition to our energy program, we added the pillars of air, water and waste and programs to advance sustainability.
