The broad goals of my research are to synthesize micron-sized colloids and rapidly assembly them into ordered structures. We have developed novel techniques to analyze these ordered structures and our results have confirmed theoretical predictions. These techniques are expected to have applications in creating materials for camouflage, artificial muscles, sensors, etc. The Army Research Office Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (ARO-MURI) currently funds this work.
