•Examined the safety aspects and evaluated the Logistical and Commercial challenges of the Upstream facility handling 20 Million tones per Annum(MMTPA) of oil and 16 Million Standard Cubic Meter per day of Gas.•Investigated the working of Dethanizer and Demethanizer columns and identified the engineering problems associated with handling liquid Hydrocarbons at Cryogenic temperatures. •Headed a team of 5 interns and developed a Process Flow Diagram (PFD) for the Ethane Propane recovery process and included expander driven compressors to increase the efficiency of the recovery.•Created a Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) using the flow diagram and translated it to a HYSYS simulation which achieved an increase in efficiency of 1.7% during simulation.
