During my pre-registration year, I have been able to gain a lot of experience within the hospital field through a number of daily responsibilities. On the ward, my responsibilities included completing the weekly sheet and prioritising which patients would require a medication history and which patients would need a follow-up review. I also undertake the drug history by speaking to the patients and using the relevant sources to ensure an appropriate medication reconciliation is completed. For any key issues that need to be rectified, I would speak to the prescriber and ensure these are appropriately prescribed on the patient's chart. In addition to this, my responsibility on the ward included ordering any medications that were not on the ward stock list/available on the ward to ensure there were no missed doses. During each clinical check of a patient, I would check all the medication had been prescribed correctly, check the patient's blood results, ensure any antibiotics prescribed were appropriate and within the Trust's guidelines, and keep up to date with what the patient's current plan of care is. If there are any queries I will speak to the ward pharmacist about my concern and how I believe it is best to rectify the problem. In the dispensary, I have undertaken the necessary competencies to dispense different types of medications for inpatient, outpatient, and discharge prescriptions. Similarly, if there are any issues on the prescription or stock levels, I would contact the ward to ensure any ambiguities were clear or place an owings form to rectify any stock issues.

Throughout my university degree, I worked in the Royal Stoke Hospital dispensary as an Assistant Technical Officer where my responsibilities included booking in prescriptions onto the prescription tracking system, ensuring the final checked items were bagged up correctly, ready to be transported to the wards via the porters. I was also responsible for answering the telephone and dealing with any issues and queries regarding patient medication as well as taking in any ward stock requests.

During my experience in retail, my responsibilities included ensuring that the store was kept to a high standard of tidiness, whilst working within a team to ensure that the daily and weekly plans were met. Interacting with customers was a key part of my role to aid with any queries they had about specific stock or finding an alternative if what they wanted was unavailable. In many instances, I would have to contact other topman stores to query about stock availability. On multiple occasions, I was given the opportunity to run the team where I was responsible for ensuring that the daily plan was hit as well as keeping the shop floor to an acceptable standard throughout the day whilst pushing sales. I was also responsible for ensuring all aspects of the shop floor were covered throughout the shift and that adequate cover was scheduled during lunch breaks. I have had experience working within different teams of the store such as Visual Merchandising and Back of House teams. This included preparing for store visits from higher management, shop floor changes, mannequin updates and preparing the stock prior to the store opening so it is ready for when customers arrive, as well as replenishing stock throughout the day.
