Training SpecialistAbacus First Aid Training Aug 2013 - PresentThe number of people that die every year that may not have died had they been given vital yet very basic life saving first aid treatment. Every year in the UK, thousands of people die or are seriously injured in accidents. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if first aid was given at the scene before emergency services arrive. Heart Attacks and circulatory disease is the UK's biggest killer, around 146,000 people have heart attacks every year, one in three of these people will die before they reach hospital. Approximately 4,000 people die and 2.7 million are injured and need hospital treatment as a result RTA's. In 2008, there were just under 231,000 casualties from road accidents reported to police, 2,538 people were killed. Around 175,000 people attend accident & emergency (A&E) departments for treatment to burns every year. An average of 300 people die from their burns. There are over 500 water-related fatalities in the UK every year. Most of these are thought to be cases of accidental drowning. On average, there are over 30 deaths and nearly 4,000 injuries from accidents in the home caused by electricity each year. Poisoning accounts for more than 100,00 hospital admissions in the UK each year. This includes accidental poisoning, which is particularly common in young children, and over-doses.The number of deaths from drug poisoning, from both legal and illegal drugs, has increased in recent years. In 2008, 2,075 men and 853 women died as a result of drug poisoning.
