I teach English at a government funded work training institution called SENA.

I am in the second year of the Alliance for Catholic Education's Teaching Fellows program through the University of Notre Dame. Through this program, I am currently teaching high school Spanish in the Los Angeles area at St. Paul.

As a Moreau Fellow, I was a teaching assistant who co-taught in several classrooms, chaperoned field trips and overnight retreats, and moderated a club. This role allowed me to provide individual student support via tutoring and in-class assistance, especially in McNamara's St. Joseph's Program, which is for students with special learning needs. As a co-moderator for the Moreau Scholar Society, I managed a fundraiser for a school in Lima, Peru and led a food waste educational campaign.

After spending some time doing grant and foundation research, I will soon begin the process of narrowing down foundations that the Center would like to send letters of inquiry to. Outside of my development duties, I also assist with on campus events and lectures by greeting guests and informing them about upcoming events.On October 29, 2014, I had the honor of participating in a moderated video conference discussing the crisis in Ukraine with students from Jena, Germany and Moscow, Russia. The conference was organized by the Kozmetsky Center and all participating students were selected through an application process.

I have been working on campus in the University Advancement office for over a year now. Some of my duties include organizing materials into necessary folders and building files as necessary; working with database entry, scanning and filing documents, answering and directing phone calls; and assisting with logistics of setup/cleanup of major departmental sponsored events. This job has given me the opportunity to learn about what goes into planning and carrying out a major campaign, as well as other ins and outs of fundraising.

Each semester at St. Edward's, students in cultural foundations classes are required to attend a workshop whose topic changes by semester. As an intern, I am responsible for researching the topic pertaining to a specific country and then relaying this information to workshop attendees. Fall 2014: Global HealthThe global health workshops focused on dysentery throughout the world. I researched the social and economic implications of cholera in Haiti and then taught students the connection between sanitation practices and their effects on health issues. I would then lead students in creating a simulated health campaign that would address cholera in Haiti.Spring 2014: Global Water RightsFor the global water rights workshops, I taught students about issues surrounding water, but in particular those surrounding trans-boundary aquifers. I researched and analyzed issues specific to the Yrená-Toba-Tarijeño aquifer in Bolivia and Argentina. During the workshops, I acted as a mediator between Bolivia and Argentina as students of these groups discussed viable options to deal with the problems of the aquifer.

This was a volunteer opportunity I took up through an environmental science course I took during the Spring 2014 semester. I assisted two St. Edward's graduate students on their project about water quality. The project is focused specifically on testing wells in Panola County, East Texas, an area that is, while very rural, experiencing quite a bit of hydraulic fracturing and oil drilling. At the conclusion of their research, the graduate students would like to be able to analyze whether or not proximity to a fracking site correlates with the presence of methane in water.

During my summer at IIE, I performed a number of tasks to assist those in the Outreach wing: I conducted a statistical analysis concerning the effectiveness of an outreach program; I drafted messages and assisted with various forms of communication, including email, listservs, and Twitter; I used data to create map visuals via Google Fusion Tables; and I completed additional research and other tasks as assigned.

My position at the USDA Foreign Agricultural Sector was a volunteer summer position. Most of my time there was spent assisting with preparations for the Annual Global Lite Foreign Attaché Conference, taking notes during several sessions of the Global Lite Conference and attending weekly meetings and assisting with other various tasks. Overall, it was a great chance to learn about the function and importance of FAS within the USDA.

I have spent quite a few summers working on Thank God It's Fresh farm. Throughout my time there, I have learned about integrated pest management as a farming method, learned the importance of supporting local farmers, labored in the fields harvesting produce, and demonstrated marketing skills with all types of people in efforts to sell produce.

During my freshman year of college, I spent a few evenings a week calling SEU parents and alumni for contributions to the St. Edward’s Annual Fund. Through this position, I built a rapport to strengthen their relationship with the University and provided clients with latest news about campus and history. This was a great opportunity to learn about fundraising efforts and get to connect with parents and alumni while hearing their stories about their time at St. Edward's.
