Communicate with faculty, researchers, and students on greenhouse policies and procedures. Provide technical support to greenhouse users and coordinate with them to ensure the success of their projects. Supervise greenhouse workers and volunteers. Train others in programming computerized environmental controls, including heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, irrigation, lighting, growth chambers, and related areas. Maintain computerized greenhouse controls for five unique research sites. Manage space requests and ensure proper paperwork is maintained for the research facility, including DEP permits, purchase order requests, time reporting, etc. Ensure compliance with NJDEP Worker Protection Standard (WPS) guidelines, as well as University policies regarding chemicals (including pesticides). Conduct tours for diverse audiences while speaking confidently and concisely. Maintain and follow an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) regime. Responsible for physical plant functionality of multiple greenhouses and associated buildings, totaling over 27,000 ft2 of greenhouse space. Responsible for emergencies in the greenhouse outside of normal work hours.

Manage accounts, website, marketing efforts, and inventory. Prepare financial statements, create and process invoices, communicate with customers and help them to understand the nature of the work performed in a non-technical way. Work as technician on service calls, install and repair equipment. Oversee maintenance on business-owned equipment.

Setting up experiments in the greenhouse and laboratory setting and caring for them (watering, propagating, fertilizing). Measuring out chemical treatments and applying them to experimental plants. Collecting data from experiments and analyzing it. Writing laboratory protocols, training students and visiting scientists on laboratory procedures. Performing lab equipment maintenance, repair, and rebuilds. Demonstrating understanding of project management, cost control, and experimental design.

In support of the “Protecting Pollinators with Economically Feasible and Environmentally Sound Ornamental Horticulture” project. Collected and prepared monthly updates on outreach activities. Researched and cataloged data and created and posted content to the pollinator website https://protectingbees.njaes.rutgers.edu/ using WordPress and wrote consumer friendly summaries for scientific publications.
