Hello! My name is Abbey Negin. Once I officially graduate this December from the University of Delaware, I will move on to my dream of being a lifelong advocate for all social justice causes, working to make the world a better and more equitable place. I'm 22, and originally from Greensboro, North Carolina. After working jobs in spaces from federal buildings to restaurant kitchens, I have developed a lengthy resume that includes international travel, government postings, and great experiences. I am a senior at the University of Delaware, with double majors in Public Policy and International Relations and double minors in History and Jewish Studies/Hebrew language. I plan to continue working, studying, and volunteering before moving on to get my Master's in the Public Health/Policy field. In the Spring of 2023, I participated in the Legislative Fellows Program, working with the House Democrats as a policy assistant. Throughout the intensive 6-month program, I dove deep into the world of Delawarean and American politics with this invaluable hands-on opportunity. After coming from North Carolina, I was entranced with Delaware’s complex political system as I worked with the wonderful elected representatives and my fellow well-qualified UD students. As an intern for the Department of State, I developed my professional skills and deduced further what I would like to do in my career post-grad. I worked in public affairs and social media, gathering relevant news, and other communications tasks. I also had the pleasure of attending a conference of hundreds of US Ambassadors and heard Secretary Blinken speak as he addressed them all. Through my work with the Center For Political Communication, I have worked on press releases, news stories, and event planning. This job allowed me to explore the world of political networking as I managed social media, planned and carried out events, and worked on the public front of this political organization. Working as a research assistant allowed me to participate in the process and see deeper into the public policy field. I have worked on various projects getting to the root of issues such as race, gender, transportation, and the opioid epidemic. Aside from student research, I have been involved with clubs such as March For Our Lives and the Environmental Justice Project. I have also held internships with the Center for Political Communication and unofficially with the office of Delaware’s Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long.
