Abbey Ness is an AICP-certified senior planner and project manager with a broad background in federal land use planning and community development. Her previous project experience includes master plans, area development plans, encroachment studies, AICUZ studies, environmental impact statements, and community partnership plans spanning all branches of the U.S. Military. She has extensive experience in facilitation, conflict management, spatial analysis (GIS), and creating and designing community outreach documents and digital products. Ms. Ness’ planning experience also includes community development and capacity building in environmental justice communities and asset-based community development planning, both domestically and internationally. Ms. Ness is an accomplished leader who has demonstrated strengths in organizational leadership, non-profit management, strategic planning, team building, and motivating large groups to work toward a shared vision. She recently served as Vice Chair and Workshop Chair of the American Planning Association (APA) Federal Planning Division, and served as a board member of the Virginia Chapter of the APA for four years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy from Duke University and a Master of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, where she completed an award-winning thesis on the relationship between the urban design of military communities and the mental health of service members.
