I don’t think any of us dreamt as a child to work in insurance…. But now I could not dream of working in any other industry. Personally, I always am needing a challenge and the ability to keep learning and expanding my skill set. The insurance industry is just that, it is constantly evolving and challenges me daily! For the past 4 years I have worked for Transportation Insurance start ups and have assisted in leveraging data to select strategic partnerships, build quality submission flow, and underwrite profitable books of business. Specifically at Nirvana Insurance, my role as a Fleet Underwriter leverages my data analytic and relationship management skills. During my time at Clemson University, studying for my Business Management degree I knew that there were two things I enjoyed, the logistics industry and data analytics. What I did not learn until early on in my career was how much I enjoyed building meaningful relationships. Underwriters are usually viewed as being behind the desk and hard to get ahold of. However, I will always shout to the roof tops that if you want to be a successful Underwriter you must be willing to pick up the phone, answer emails in a timely manner, etc and be willing to have tough conversations! Tough and honest conversations are the ones that built me the most meaningful and long term relationships.
