In this position, I have had the pleasure of working with several amazing scientists, including Dr. Laura K. Reed, the principal investigator, and Dr. Andrei Bombin, my direct mentor, to study the phenotypic variation mechanisms in metabolic syndromes with Drosophila melanogaster.- Logged over 800 lab hours over 6 academic semesters and 2 summers. - Co-authored "Influence of Lab Adapted Natural Diet and Microbiota on Life History and Metabolic Phenotype of Drosophila Melanogaster" (Bombin, 2020)- Coordinated mini team for data collection completion- Collected larval samples- Conducted sensitive metabolic assays- Analyzed data with JMP and R- Trained an incoming Ph.D. candidate in procedures and operations within the lab- Trained as a GEP Annotator with the Genomic Education Partnership.- Completed introductory and preliminary gene annotation modules with the associated genome browser and BLASTAwards and Accolades:- Placed first in the Arts and Sciences Summit for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (URSCA) poster competition in April 2019- Earned an Excellence in Research aware at the Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Conference poster competition in March 2021- Sole author and award winner of an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Grant in November 2019- Participated in the BioFest poster competition in September 2019
