About Abby Matthaeus
My ultimate goal is to finish veterinary school and graduate in 2017 with my DVM and then go on to practice equine veterinary medicine. I have spent two years as an equine veterinary assistant to the four veterinarians at evergreen equine veterinary practice and seven years with Dr. Larry Pickering, another equine veterinarian from Duvall, Washington. One year shadowing a small animal veterinarian Dr. Jessica Vanderploeg at Cottage Lake Veterinary Hospital. Prior to this, I have shadowed Veterinarians at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish and Companion Animal Hospital in Bellevue. I have worked with University of Washington’s Animal Behaviorist, Dr. James Ha at the Woodland Park Zoo. I also volunteered for associations such as Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Center, Love-a-Mutt Foundation, Seattle Humane Society, Palouse Area Therapeutic Horsemanship, and Pasado’s Safe Haven. Since the age of nine, I have assisted horse trainers in multiple disciplines, provided riding instruction to students, independently managed a farm, and created a companion animal sitting business with over 150 clients.
