Building robust subscription billing systems in Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Postgres, TypeScript, ReactJS, Tailwind CSS, Cypress. During my time at Reforge, I was tech lead on a 6-month project to overhaul the backend code that powers our Pricing and Packaging, after which I led a team of 4 engineers on a 3-month project to automate collecting sales tax with Avalara and Stripe. At Reforge, I got to do all my favorite things: increasing test coverage, helping improve accessibility, working closely with cross-functional teams of stakeholders, improving performance, and working collaboratively to build scalable, performant, robust systems.

In my first 7 months at Teachable, I led a project to overhaul our subscription billing system, collaborating with stakeholders across the company (data, sales, customer support, finance, legal, tax) to plan, build, and deliver a no-downtime migration to the new system. I mentored junior engineers, helped with on-call/incident response, and used my skills as a full-stack engineer to build features, fix bugs, and optimize performance in our Ruby on Rails and ReactJS application.

At Wistia, I built features with names like Privacy and Sharing, Users and Permissions, Reach and Retarget, Automated Captions, A/B Testing, Publish to Social, Subscriptions, and Billing. My tools were Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript, GraphQL.I spent my days maintaining a Rails monolith, iteratively rewriting its front end as a single page app, building api endpoints to feed data to the single page app, advocating for diversity, equity, & inclusion, building features for video marketers, pages for marketing to video marketers, building integrations with marketing apps for marketing to video marketers, integrations with marketing apps for video marketers, building API endpoints, teaching customer support reps how to code, supporting multilingual captions, automating workflows for sales and support and ops, fixing accessibility issues, buttoning up security holes, writing tech specs, turning epics into stories, running postmortems, writing heartfelt stories about incidents discussed in those postmortems, and enthusiastically participating in interviewing and hiring and onboarding and mentoring.

Building the best video hosting service in the world, delighting customers, and TDDing my way through the full stack with the help of React/Redux, ES2015, Ruby on Rails, NSQ, MYSQL, Sidekiq, coffeescript, etc.

Writing beautiful, clean, tested educational webapps for kids using JavaScript, AngularJS, Jasmine, TDD, grunt, bootstrap, SASS. Brought our codebase from 0% test coverage to 70% test coverage in my first few months; taught my teammates to write unit tests.

Built interactive digital textbooks and pedagogical tools using JavaScript and AngularJS, Test-Driven Development, and Pair Programming. Solving problems, fixing bugs, and delighting customers every day.

Short-term contract doing back-end Ruby on Rails development. I used Rails, Redis, and Sidekiq, debugged background worker queues and wrote Ruby scripts for syncing MySQL with Salesforce and Marketo databases.

Taught second grade to Deaf children with language delays, ADHD, and behavioral issues in an underfunded inner-city school.

I taught all subjects in ASL and written English in a bilingual/ bicultural school. My students were Deaf middle school kids with special needs, including language processing disorders, vision disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders.I taught a computer programming after-school program with Scratch (a programming language for kids) and a series of professional-development workshops for other teachers to teach them to use Scratch in their classes.I loved finding opportunities to turn the curriculum into meaningful, hands-on, unforgettable experiences: my history students dug up grass to plant fields of wheat while learning about ancient Mesopotamia, built irrigation systems (a shaduf while studying ancient Egypt, replaced by an archimedes screw during the unit on ancient Greece). They carried water from the steam near the school to water the plants, and harvested sheaves of grain at the end of the school year (using classroom scissors!) which they threshed and winnowed and ground into flour with a hand cranked grain mill I found at a yard sale. My life science students learned about single cell organisms by growing yeasts and turning them into bread, by culturing yogurt, and by building a compost pile and nurturing it with cafeteria cast offs. I also organized an electives block in my middle school, where I taught workshops in weaving, woodworking, chess, origami, and other topics of interest.I wrote and gathered data on IEPs, behavioral management plans, and MCAS Alternative Assessment portfolios.

Taught Yiddish and Jewish labor history to third graders in a secular Jewish cultural school.

Taught life skills and organized adventures for a group of amazing adults with developmental disabilities in a day program.
